I've been working on the website and logo for a couple hours since I got off work. I've been going through a lot of advice I've received from some helpful people over this last year. I really should have gotten started on these things as soon as I decided doing music was going to be a serious pursuit. I've been saying I was going to make a logo, and a website and get business cards for over a year. I got to be friendly with a hotel GM in waikiki. He told me that I am my business and that myself along with my skills and talents are my products. He told me that I needed to package and market them all. I guess I never really let that sit in. I was doing really good playing music on the street. During busy seasons I'd take in hundreds of dollars a night just playing my favorite songs over and over. I guess I figured that if people were taking to me that well that eventually something would just happen. That's a pretty absurd thought. So when I started getting referred to people and venues for gigs at establishments for appealing money I got asked for things that my friend, the Gm, told me I should be working on. People wanted demos, website info, references, and press sheets..... My inability to provide those things cost me some nice opportunities. I honestly believe more will come in time but in the meantime I need to grow in my ability to conduct myself as a business and grow in that as much as I focus on growing as a musician and vocalist. I'm still super stoked on my first steps though. I just realize that there's more steps to walk through than I thought previously. Jam on.
